A summary of newspaper headlines, connected by a black beam

Description

Over the course of four weeks, I worked on putting together various, unconnected news articles into a continuous story. Tired of the frame by frame animation style that I used in “Allegorie”, I decided to animate everything digitally with as much vector-based movement as possible. Therefore, it seemed fitting to have a predominantly digital, synthesizer-based soundtrack.

  • All animation was made in Animate CC using a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet and eventually merged in Premiere Pro CC
  • All sounds used were either made or mixed in FL Studio
  • Special thanks to Thomas Rüegg for taking the time to edit the sound in FL Studio with me and Daniel Niederöst for mixing the finished product

Making of

Concept

Before creating a storyboard, I had to make some preparations:

  • Listing news articles that I found important or interesting
  • Planning how to get from one headline to the next creatively
  • Deciding on a “black beam” as the connecting link between all scenes

The story reflected a bleak and joyless worldview. Not being particularly fond of such  messages, I chose the piece of cake scene to finish my video on an upbeat note.

Sound design

This time, we didn`t record any sound of our own. All sounds were either made on a analogue stylophone or a digital synthesizer, mixed with FL Studio and finally inserted into Premiere Pro CC.
